Walmart shoppers aren’t leaving Walmart for Amazon’s new online store anytime soon.
Instead, Walmart shoppers are buying into Amazon’s own online store, the Amazon Marketplace, which Walmart says is $10 per item, up from $5 per item last year.
Walmart is also offering a $10 rebate on some orders for Walmart shoppers who shop at Amazon’s retail stores, which are now in more than 60 U.S. cities.
Walmart says that rebate is good for orders placed between July 3 and Aug. 31, but customers will need to contact their local Walmart store to check if they qualify.
“The Amazon Marketplace has expanded to include a wide variety of categories, including food, electronics, household goods and other categories,” a Walmart spokeswoman said in a statement.
“We have seen a surge in orders, including many new orders from new customers, and Walmart is working to fulfill orders as quickly as possible.”
Walmart has had a long history of selling online.
The company started selling in 2006 and expanded into other categories such as groceries and apparel, but its online presence has been limited by slow growth and slow growth in brick-and-mortar stores.
Walmart’s Amazon Marketplace started in the United Kingdom and the U.K. in September.
The Marketplace is still not widely used because Walmart does not have enough online stores, and customers must buy from one of the dozens of retail stores that Walmart owns or lease out to other retailers.
Walton said the Marketplace is a way for Walmart to give its customers more choice in its retail stores.
“It’s about allowing customers to choose where they want to shop, not necessarily where it is in the store,” Walmart spokeswoman Lauren Fessler said.
WalMart stores in the U, U.P., and U.A.E. are now offering Walmart Prime members a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime if they are 18 or older.
Walmarts first Amazon Marketplace opened in Seattle in February, and shoppers who bought a $199 Amazon.ca gift card can now choose between Amazon’s ecommerce store and Walmart.com.
Walcott’s website says that Amazon has added more than 100,000 items to its online store since it began selling online in April 2016.
The company is also working to improve its online sales in areas like food, health, technology and home, where it has a smaller presence, according to Walmart.
